Monday Night Expectations

 By: Colin Cook

Michael Vick hasn't had a good year. Not a good year at all.

Remember a season or two ago when he was playing as, perhaps, the best quarterback in the league? Well, it seems the turnover bug has bitten him; and while it has gotten better the last two weeks, you can never be too certain with Vick. Rumors have been flying around the organization about Michael Vick and Head Coach Andy Reid's job security, making it seem as if this game is a 'must win'. It has already stated that "8-8 or less is unacceptable", and going into this game 3-4 is definitely forcing the Eagles' hand as far as needing wins are concerned.

While Michael Vick is not at all solely at fault here, he is the figurehead of the franchise, but that's beside the point. If the Eagles are to win this week, Michael Vick will NEED to step up his game.

Why?

Because this week, the Eagles play the Saints, a team that is in last place in defense. Particularly with the pass defense, the Saints have truly been horrendous, giving opposing quarterbacks insane amounts of fantasy points. The one thing that HAS been going for the New Orleans Saints is good ol' Drew Brees. The Saints offense has been superb. Brees alone is reason enough not to count out this team, even with a shoddy defense. Although, 'shoddy' isn't a harsh enough word to describe this defense. Expect Asomugha, of the Eagles, to try and make some plays to force some swats or even interceptions.

So does this have the workings of a good old fashioned shoot out between the two teams? Well, we know Drew Brees will definitely put up the numbers, especially with Darren Sproles out with a hand injury. The question would have to be whether or not Michael Vick can follow suit. If there was ever a time for Vick to shine, to cast off the doubts and prove that he should remain the franchise quarterback for the Eagles, now is the time to do it. If he CAN'T deliver against the Saints...he better get a supermodel girlfriend, because he's no better this season than Mark Sanchez.

Prediction: Saints win by four.

This is assuming Michael Vick can take the bull by the horns. If the Saints' defense magically becomes better, or gets enough early sacks to throw off Vick's game (which has been very easy), expect a Brees-fueled blow out.
